1982. circle
After I'd spent half my life, 14 years at that point (I actually calculated it to the day), with long hair I decided to cut it off. The new idea was to have a circle of hair, died black, running around my face with one side of the circle in front of my ear, where hair ordinarily grew, & on the other side behind my ear, where hair didn't ordinarily grow. Then I took the hair that was cut off & glued it to the place where hair didn't grow to complete the circle. Some people called this a "Reverse Mohawk". I didn't think of it that way - to me, the Mohawk was already a punk subcultural cliché by 1982. Interestingly, the 1st Mohawk I ever saw was on a young boy in 1963 or thereabouts, predating punk. Maybe the young boy actually WAS a member of the Mohawk tribe. I don't know. The person assisiting with & photographing this haircut was Hannah Aviva, my girlfriend of the time.
