Collage Try
by Bill O'Driscoll
[..]
Fox-Gieg presents two collage-like videos that earned him the grant plus two other recent shorts at the next of Film Kitchen, a monthly series for local film and video. The program also includes a novel screening of The Official John Lennon's Erection as Blocking Our View Homage & Cheese Sandwich, by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE, and the 1976 promotional short You'll Love Pittsburgh!

At first there was just one problem with tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE's plan to make a time-lapse film of a parking garage from the window of the Baltimore warehouse where he lived: John Lennon and Yoko Ono had made a similar film, Erection, 20-plus years earlier.
Then Tent realized there were no problems. "It's not worth worrying about whether it's been done before," says the self-described "sprocket scientist." "It would still be worth doing because I felt like doing it."
Tent's tribute to creativity expanded to include performances by his band, The Official Project (which changed names with each of its more than 100 performances) and spoofs of films as diverse as Citizen Kane and Michael Snow's avant-garde landmark Wavelength. At Film Kitchen, The Official John Lennon's Erection as Blocking Our View Homage & Cheese Sandwich's first, middle and final thirds will screen simultaneously while Tent mixes the soundtracks and provides live commentary.
The latter role is especially appealing to Tent, a prolific film- and video-maker who recently presented his feature-length film Satanic Liposuction, Neoism?! and You!! at the Museum of Modern Art, in New York. He notes that old time cinemas hired "explicators" to interpret silent films for audiences, and he savors a chance to put his own work in a new context.
