I reckon I've been a nudist since I was at least a teenager. I was recently telling a story about how ill-received I was as a nudist by a sychophantic scene in Baltimore that most would probably expect to be open-minded because of its fawining over a famous filmmaker there. I told about going to a party at former country club where the video crew that was shooting the dailies for a certain film lived. I took my clothes off & wandered around the party naked. At least one member of the crew was furious & 'threatened' to do that at one of my parties - in their pathetic confusion somehow thinking that this would bother me. A friend of mine who was listening to the story asked why I'd do that? Was I being exhibitionist? No, I just feel freer that way, more alive. It was fun. It was a way of being uninhibited.
For the author's photo of my 1st book, published in the late summer of 1977, I stood on the street outside my rented house wearing transpaprent clothing. I was naked in the very 1st video I was in, in collaboration with Steve Estes, in 1977. The 1st 'public' performance I ever gave where I was naked was probably "tENTATIVELY, a Skin Exhange" at the 5th International Neoist Apartment festival in NYC in collaboration with my girlfriend HannaH AvivA. A man suspected of being a Vice Squad cop came & watched it intensely. A more notorious nude performance was "T he Poop & Pee Dog Copyright Violation Ceremony" in 1983.
In 1982, I made a regular-8mm film called "Seriousness is Death" with HannaH that had the 2 of us doing various things naked with masks on & rubber hands & feet. One scene that we shot was of us attempting to canoe naked with masks, rubber hands & rubber feet - basically unable to control the canoe & spinning while going downstream. Another scene had us fucking wearing latex skins that we'd made from each other's bodies. Since the latext looked like real human skin it must've seemed very grotesque.
After HannaH & I had an argument in Chicago during the 2nd Church of the SubGenius Convention, she 'lost' the camera that had the film in it with those 2 scenes. If anyone ever found that footage & had it developed, it must've seemed mysterious & frightening.
I discarded that film after HannaH & I broke up - but not before making a bad trasnfer of it to VHS. One of the overexposed, but still somewhat comprehensible, scenes was of me naked with the mask etc on a parking lot in Baltimore in broad daylight with a cop car parked a hundred or so feet away. I spray-paint on a fence "Seriousness Is Death".
Since then, I've made quite a few masked nudist movies - these are all listed below. Other non-masked nudist movies are included too - including some sex movies I've made. Most have nudity as a primary element.
