I'm surprised & delighted by what's on Vimeo relevant to, made by, generally featuring yrs truly. I have a 'channel' (do I? well.. not exactly.. do people have channels on Vimeo? I don't know) but, at 1st, most of what was on there had been put on by friends of mine. Just today I discovered a super-8 film shot by Pete Horobin of myself & my beloved of the time, Laura A. Trueseal, & uploaded by my old pal fcr. This is a great pleasure for me b/c it was shot on the roof of the DATA Attic (now deceased) in Dundee, Scotland, in 1988, & features an homage to an action by my other old pal Doug Retzler in honor of his 1st born Elan. It also shows footage of my booed usic busking unit (now deceased). I'd never seen this footage before! Just running a search for "tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE" on Vimeo is not likely to yield all these results so I've gathered them here so that there's a central index of links. They're arranged in roughly reverse chronological order of when the movie was made so that when anything new is added it'll appear at the top (although older movies only recently uploaded will appear in chronological order of their making).
Alas, I'm informed that I now have an upper limit of 5GB on Vimeo unless I start paying for their service. I hope they survive finacially but I'm too poor to pay.

2017 MM 76 RELEASE (well done)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"MM 76 RELEASE (well done)": On Sunday, November 27, 2011, I organized the 1st of a series of "mm"s (m(usic(ian's))m(eetings)) to discuss, listen to, & play (m)usic. Most of these were at my house. "mm" is pronounced drawn out, as if appreciately, "mmmmmmmmmmmm". In 2013, we released the "MM 26" CD showcasing some of the talents of some of the more regular attendees. Four years later, & 50 mms later, we released a 2nd CD, "MM 76: Amusical Music Atheatrical Theater" - this time including mm regulars & non-mm related folks that I felt were doing interesting things. After months of delays, we had our CD release event at The Glitter Box Theater, my current favorite Pittsburgh venue. The line-up was Noah Rectenwald who surprised me & probably everyone else but his girlfriend with pop songs. Warren Burt sent a video from Australia using 2 iPads & an iPhone to play a complex piano-sound based piece. Ben Opie performed a fantastically accomplished improvisation on 2 reed instruments. With the assistance of Meg Graham on voice, I performed the 1st 6 paragraphs of my 'opera' in progress: "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas". A duet version of "How Things Are Made" (Matt Aelmore & David Bernabo - missing Brian Riordan) imrpovised on trumpet & analog synthesizer next. The evening ended with Michael Boyd's "Replication [CBCL]" in which he made a slideless trombone out of PVC pipe. A good time was had by some. The 1st edit of this is feature-length. The 3rd edit, the "well done" one (the 2nd edit was the 39:33 "medium rare" one), excerpts everyone's sets to approximately 2 minutes each. This makes it easier for interested parties to whiz through & witness the variety. - November 3, 2017 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2017 tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE @ Synesthesia
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE @ Synesthesia": From mid-March to mid-June, 2000, my partner in grime, etta cetera, & I traveled 1st, briefly, in Malaysia, & 2nd, for most of the time, in Australia. During our stay in Melbourne we were initially hosted by composer/performer Warren Burt who introduced to many interesting creative people. Warren also arranged gigs for me that I wd've been unlikely to get on my own. One of these was at the Synesthesia CD store that specialized in more experimental musics. This was a strange uncert insofar as I was set-up behind the sales desk, there was a captive bird in the air-shaft to my left, & there were only 6 people in the audience who were seated uncomfortably. But, as is typical of me, I was trying something new &, thanks to Warren, I was using a pitch-to-MIDI converter for the 1st time - a device I've since found very useful. etta cetera was cooperative enough to shoot VHS footage of the gig (& I shot footage of a dancing puppet made available to me by other hosts, the "Autobarnies"). This was one of the last of the "Triple-S Variety Shows" that'd started in CacaNada in 1994. This edit is made of excerpts now linked together that were originally in my 8:24:43 movie of this trip called "Don't Walk Backwards". The entirety of that is on my onesownthoughts YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/kODzM_2_bRM . The original uncert was much longer. - October 26, 2017 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE

from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"Ernie Althoff, April 20, 2000, April 25, 2000": From mid-March to mid-June, 2000, my partner etta cetera & I travelled in Malaysia (briefly) & Australia (for most of the time) where we were very busy & where we met a plethora of interesting folks. Ernie Althoff was one of those & we were fortunate to be able to shoot footage of him demonstrating his heliosonics & to witness him performing live a few days later at the Planet Café where many, many interesting musical events were happening. I'd known of Ernie from our both writing for the now late lamented "Experimental Musical Instruments" magazine so it was a pleasure to be finally able to meet him in person. - October 25, 2017 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2017 MM 76 Ad
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"MM 76 Ad": I started having mms (m(usic(ian's))m(eetings)) at my house in November, 2011. The original idea was to have one every other week - alternating with PHEW! (a writer's group of sorts). That proved to be impractical. "MM 26" was a CD. By mm 60, in February, 2016, I started orienting the mms around generating material for my 'opera', "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas". Some of the movies that grew out of that process are on Vimeo: "ORGAN (Endangered)" ( https://vimeo.com/155908157 ) is one of them. A partial history of the mms so far can be consulted here: http://idioideo.pleintekst.nl/mm.html . After I finished generating the "Endangered Languages" materials with mm 75, I decided to take an indefinite leave from having the meetings at my house in favor of releasing at least one more CD &, maybe, an entire series. Hence "MM 76" was created. This "Ad" for that CD is really just a glimpse at some of the packaging accompanied by brief snippets from each of the 10 audio selections on it. This version has a 4/3 aspect ratio, there's a version on YouTube that has a 16/9 aspect ratio & other slight differences. Naturally, I hope some interest in the work will be stimulated. - July 30, 2017 note from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2017 Cosmic Grunt / Betsy DeVos
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"Cosmic Grunt / Betsy DeVos": I like to give readings. Unfortunately, there isn't a reading series in Pittsburgh where I'd be likely to be invited as a featured reader. I find Pittsburgh to be an extremely un-literate town. Almost every reading I've been to has featured very similar work of an un-exploratory nature. All the work is expository, a little vagueness is ok, a little drama is ok, a little politics is ok, but nothing tooooooooo outside the box ever happens. That said, the people who populate this particular open mic are friendly & unpretentious & I rather like it. Furthermore, the food at Té Café, where the reading happens, is quite good & if I lived in the neighborhood & could afford to eat out as much as I'd like to I'd probably be there fairly often. At this particular open mic the theme of the night was basically a Trump-is-Actually-President-O-M'God-What-the-Fuck?!-I'm-Horrified sort of thing - which is the general mood everywhere I go these days. I'd written the 2 pieces I wanted to read before I knew what the theme was but I figured they would fit in well enough. I read 1st, challenging myself with the "Cosmic Grunt" piece & feeling like I pulled it off OK. I shortened the "Betsy DeVos" piece in the interest of keeping my part of the open reading under the 10 minute time limit. I've edited in the part here that was left out there in case anyone witnessing this movie doesn't know who DeVos is. Frankly, I think I look like shit in this movie, especially in the part I shot at home. I could've done a retake & made myself look sexier but, what the fuck, it's realistic for people to look like shit from time-to-time so I might as well join the crowd. Of course, I'm usually irresistably handsome. - February 9, 2017E.V. notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 NONDO (Endangered)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"NONDO (Endangered)": Neil Feather invented the instrument the NONDO around 1979 or earlier. It consists of a sheet of iron bent by the tension of piano wire running across its concave surface in 2 parallel lines. One way of playing it is to roll a piece of cylindrical metal along the strings & to strike this cylinder & the strings themselves. m(usic(ian's))m(eeting) 74, December 25, 2016, focused on a history of the NONDO stretching from 1979 to 2016 with an emphasis on recordings of it in my collection, Neil's & my playing of it, & the groups The Big If, Something that Dissolves the Shadow of Something that was next to Something that Combusted Twice. Once, The 'Official" Project, & THUS. This is the 3rd edit of the material, the edit that's been reduced to only :02, :03, :05, & :07 shots for the purpose of ultimately being part of a projected score. - January 3, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 ZITHER (Endangered)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"ZITHER (Endangered)": The 13th completed molecule of the upper grid of the Score Movie for my opera entitled "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas" out of a projected group of 15. Each Roman Numeral represents an instruction for the players who move across a grid that corresponds to the maximum grid of the movie. "Endangered Languages.." is an ecosystem that participants within can't control but can try to influence. The hypothetical objective is to keep biolingual diversity alive & to resist homogenization of the world by maintaining a healthy complexity. - December 19, 2016 E.V. notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"COUGHING (Endangered)": This is the 12th (Endangered) opera molecule. As I wrote in my email announcement of this mm theme: "Yes, coughing, the bane of concerts. Please bring recordings of concerts in which coughing can be heard. I doubt that I'll find any relevant movies between now & then. I'm not even sure I can find any audio recordings. If nothing else, we can improvise coughing together. I know this sounds like one of those things that only I would find musically stimulating & amusing but give it a chance, eh?! Remember, it'll become incorporated into my in-progress opera & think of how fun that'll be!" As it turned out there was a wealth of material & it was loads of fun. It also reminded me that cough suppressants seem to be unhealthy insofar as they prevent the body's attempt to expel harmful bacteria. Especially adding to the success of this m(usic(ian's))m(eeting) was the online research & movie-making of Ryan Broughman & the respiratory expertise of Unfinished Symphonies. - December 3, 2016E.V. notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 TUNING FORKS (Endangered)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"TUNING FORKS (Endangered)": this is the 11th 'molecule' of the intended 15 molecules of the upper grid of the Score Movie for my in-progress 'opera' entitled: "Endangered Languages, Endangered Culture, Endangered Ideas". The previous 10 are: "METRONOME", "ELECTRONICS", "HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS", "PIANO", "VIBRAPHONE", "MUSIC BOXES", "HARMONICA", "CLARINET", "ACCORDION", & "ORGAN". All but "HARMONICA (Endangered)" (which is on YouTube), "ELECTRONICS (Endangered)" (also on YouTube), & "METRONOME (Endangered)" (on the Internet Archive) are on Vimeo. - November 26, 2016E.V. notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS (Endangered)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS (Endangered)": This is the 8th of a projected series of 15 of a particular type of module for the Score Movie for my in-progress 'opera' entitled "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas". Already made are the ones for PIANO, MUSIC BOXES, HARMONICA, VIBRAPHONE, CLARINET, ACCORDION, & ORGAN (all but HARMONICA are on Vimeo). As with the others, this is a distillation of a several hour long mm (m(usic(ian's))m(eeting)) in which movies of the use of HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS for (M)Usical purposes were witnessed, recordings were listened to, & HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS in the screening room at the Who Unit? were spontaneously played. It may be that I'm giving away too much of the 'opera' in advance but that's ok because most of you who witness these "(Endangered)" movies will never get a chance to witness the finished project anyway. - August 5, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 PIANO (Endangered)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"PIANO (Endangered)" is the 7th in a projected series of INSTRUMENT-specific movies intended to be sampled from as a Score Movie for my highly hypothetical large-scale project entitled "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas". As with its 6 predecessors, this is a distillation of sorts of a longer movie quasi-documenting a musician's meeting - in this case between tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE & his old pal Ben Opie in which they spontaneously played the piano to produce short phrases & listened to a small sampling of some of their favorite piano music, in some cases while following the scores at the same time. - July 6, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 The Man Who Fell to Queens
from Roboto Experimental Film
A collage film made by Kevin Kino started in 2012 that combines 1950s cartoons, Japanese science fiction movies, and several student films made by Kino while an undergrad at New School University. Soundtrack is an abridged version of live improv performed by tENTATIVELY A cONVENIENCE, Elena Malkin, and Kevin Kino at Modern Formations Gallery in 2006. - notes from Kevin Kino (slightly edited & augmented by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
This could be called the condensed version of "mm 65 presents: VIBRAPHONE". At any rate, it's the 6th movie meant to be sampled from for my hypothetical work-in-progress provisionally entitled "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas", a game with a symbiotic eco-system over which no-one has control in which a vague attempt is made to buttress up vanishing ideas. - June 30, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
In the 19+ year old program that I'm using to create the notes for this, I seem to be unable to use Cyrillic characters. As such, the title above instead of beginning with 3 Cyrillic letters & ending with 2 more is made entirely from the Roman alphabet. Furthermore, I'm not, therefore, able to present the Russian version of this text. Oh, well..
Limpolysemia defined
"Limpolysemia" is a word tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE coined as the name for a tele-video-conference between himself, 3 friends in Pittsburgh, a friend in Richmond, a friend in South Carolina, and a friend in Rotterdam and a group of people in Minsk in Belarus. The idea was that we share interests in creative activism - what tENT calls "IMP ACTIVISM".
Since the conference involved people who speak English as a main language and people who speak Russian as a main language, tENT coined Limpolysemia as a word that uses both the Cyrillic & Roman alphabets (not displayed correctly in this description).
Monty Cantsin, tENT's main contact in Belarus, has been part of a group whose name is transliterated as "Lipovy Tsvet" which Monty claims means "Lime Blossom". Another Russian speaker I know says that it actually is closer to "Linden Blossom". With this in mind, tENT initially proposed that the conference be called "Lemon Seed".
Discussion led to the idea of "polysemy", "the coexistence of many possible meanings for a word or phrase". This then turned into the word "polysemy" placed in between syllables of "Lem-on" or "Lempolysemon". Various confusions or possible meaning coexistences resulted in Limpolysemia which could be taken to mean "Lim-polysem-it" or "The Limit of Polysemy".

"MUSIC BOXES (Endangered)": This is the 5th finished part of my ongoing 'opera' project. Each of the "Endangered" modules is to be triggered systematically by the playing of a keyboard. These will then function as both prerecorded material for the 'opera' & as score for the players. I hope to involve as many as 30 people. It's got a loooooonnnnnggggggg way to go. - May 28, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 Chalkboard Suit & Chernobylite Jokes
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"Chalkboard Suit & Chernobylite Jokes": 2016 marked the 7th Annual Polish Hill May Day Parade. Each year, & for years even before the parade started, there've been Variety Shows open to public participation that precede the parade. This year I'd been reading about Chernobyl. The theme was of the parade was "Many heads, many hands" so I decided to paint a suit with chalkboard paint & invite audience members to draw hands & heads on them while I talked about radioactivity, etc. - May 1, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 Fenollosa's Chinese
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"Fenollosa's Chinese": I recently chose to read Ernest Fenollosa's small book entitled "The Chinese Written Character as a Medium for Poetry" in which he claims pictorial origins for all Chinese written characters & claims that they're all also verbs. I don't agree with his analysis, which, as I understand it, is not currently accepted by linguists, but I found his examples inspiring & created this brief animation in response. This is probably another step in the creation of "Endangered Languages" but not because I consider Chinese to be endangered. - April 27, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"CLARINET (Endangered)": On April 3, 2016EV, some stalwart regulars of mm (m(usic(ian's))m(eetings)) met at Who Unit? to play clarinets & (half-)listen to great clarinetists playing (well, I say "half" because we jabber most of the time) & to discuss things like fingering systems & crystal mouthpieces. Kenny Haney played 5 short selections on clarinet & Ben Opie improvised 5. This was all quasi-documented & made into a feature-length movie that will probably never appeal to anyone. This was then distilled to this short that's intended to be sampled from for my MESSTERPIECE, "Endangered Languages, Endangered Culture, Endangered Ideas". 2 other movies for this project are already on Vimeo: "ORGAN (Endangered)" & "ACCORDION (Endangered)" & there are 12 more to come. If you're confused by the prominent Roman Numerals it's because I haven't explained them yet. Patience. - April 17, 2016EV notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE, unb lievably obscure d composer
2016 F0101D
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"F0101D": The 'idea' behind this movie is so obvious that even calling it an 'idea' is giving too much credit. From the earliest days of discs rerecording them as they glitch has been appealing. I'm just adding my 2¢ worth. There must be zillions of them online. I get DVDs from the library & thrift stores, 2 places where they're most likely to be dirty or damaged. I'll be in the midst of watching one, I'll be enjoying it, it'll get near the end, it'll start to malfunction & THAT'S THAT: I won't be seeing the climax of the movie. In some cases, I continue to watch the movie as it glitches anyway. Here's the ending of the dirty disc I was watching last night. Do you know what movie it is?
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
This is the 2nd of a proposed 15 short movies about specific things used for making sound made for sampling from. The 1st one is also on Vimeo & is called "ORGAN (Endangered)". The parenthetical "Endangered" means that both ORGAN & ACCORDION are projected as part of a large project entitled "Endangered Languages, Endangered Culture, Endangered Ideas" that I hope to involve a large number of players in & that I hope to have finished by sometime in 2017. The footage in this was culled from a document that I made of me working on a very decrepit accordion & from an accordion themed mm 61. - March 20, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2016 ORGAN (Endangered)
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"ORGAN (Endangered)": I have a tendency to envision extremely ambitious projects that no-one but me is likely to undertake without funding. Some examples of these might be B.U.T.N. (Baltimore Underground Telectropheremoanin' Network) (1979-1981) done in collaboration with Richard Tryrzno Ellsberry & Doug Retzler, the "Official" Project (1990-1994) done in collaboration with Neil Feather, Triple-S Variety Shows (1994-2000) done solo, & HiTEC (2008-2010) done in collaboration with Johann Nystrom, Ben Opie, & many others. NOW, I have an idea for an opera (or some-such) to be entitled "Endangered Languages, Endangered Cultures, Endangered Ideas". "ORGAN" is a teeny-tiny step in the direction of this opera. What's here could be called 1/15th of the score but that's misleading. I'll explain later (maybe). - February 18, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
2015 Bemusement Park
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"Bemusement Park": I've lived in Pittsburgh for 19.5 years without ever having gone to its famous amusement park, Kennywood. There were multiple reasons for this: 1. it's expensive & I have very little money, 2. it's not close to where I live, 3. I don't care about amusement parks much. Then, on July 20, 2015, I was fortunate enough to be able to go there as a perquisite of my job. Instead of going on the rides, I shot footage of them, picking mostly the ones that I wouldn't've had the nerve to go on. Once I had the footage, I decided it was too obvious to just make a movie of the rides so I transformed the experience into this little cartoon instead. - August 9, 2015 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE

The abridged version of "Titin" made for Vimeo is 2:06 long & provides brief excerpts from each part. I, "tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE", conceived of & did by far most of the work on this movie - including composing a score called "Titin" (for keyboard(s)) for it, shooting most of it, making the titles, editing it, etc.. This is ideally presented in its full 7:35:41 length as an installation piece. "Vermin Supreme Campaining for Mayor in BalTimOre, Tuesday, October 22nd, 1991E.V.": As anyone who's ever followed politics, no matter which country, no matter which era, KNOWS, Vermin Supreme has rightfully won EVERY election, regardless of whether it's simultaneously as Mayor of multiple cities & President.. Governor of your car, WHATEVER. - & every single damned time his rightful due has been taken away from him by corrupt ballot-stuffing, rigging, what-have-you. This movie shows him early on in his career. It's so old that humans were black & white then, there was no color, people weren't even high-def yet, like we are today, because the wonders of digital magic hadn't improved our quality of life. I was alive then, those were hard times, all the edges were sharp.. &, yet.. at the same time.. dull. Vermin was the answer & STILL IS THE ANSWER. Don't worry your pretty little high-def head about what the question is. It doesn't matter. It's obvious here that the public ADORES him. Talk to your screen as they appear on it: Say to everyone visible: "If you voted for Vermin Supreme don't say anything to me, I don't want to endanger you." Note that every person remains mum. That's how deep their reverence for VERMIN SUPREME is. - September 6, 2017E.V. notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
1988 Philosopher's Union Member's Mouthpiece #00,030: Stefan Szczelkun
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
"Philosopher's Union Member's Mouthpiece #00,030: Stefan Szczelkun": Stefan pired by the Musician's Union's motto "Keep Music Live". John told me about this idea in early 1988 around the time I acquired my PXL-2000 toy camcorder & the 2 things jived in my head &, Lo & Behold!, I decided to shoot a series of Philosopher's Union Member's Mouthpieces using the PXL. Shortly thereafter, I was in Greta GarBritain & I had the opportunity to capture Stefan waxing philosophical. While the spontaneity may've inclined Stefan more to waning philosophical, resulting less in philosophy & more in low-key performance, Szczelkun's essential affability is well-represented. - December 16, 2014EV notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE

1983 Tunnel T.Ore & Tiger
from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
In the early 1980s I took people on tours through the train tunnel stretching from the MICA station building to Camden Yards (before the stadium was there). Sometimes I did this as "Tim Ore" - hence the "T.Ore" pun part of the title. In the early summer I went with Dr. O'Goul in the tunnel while Lizard Media Systems documented with his VHS camcorder (somewhat of a rarity at the time). We went to the suite of rooms off the tunnel that served to house the tunnel exhaust system & Dr. O'Goul converted it into a "Lion's Den" by spray-painting her Tiger stencil there as a 'rug' & a wall decoration. - March 27, 2016 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
