tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE is happy to announce the 1st BYOC (BackYard Outdoor Cinema) behind his house at _____, Spit'n'Polish Hill, _____, Saturday, August 1, 2015, 8PM. Enter through the _____ door which will have a "BYOC" sign on it. The movie to be premiered is tENT's "Taking care of Business".
Have you ever:
Struggled with trying to subdue your jungle-like backyard?
Gotten poison ivy?
Torn apart a shed & then hassled with disposing of the remains?
Gotten rid of scores of cardboard boxes taking up space in your house?
Installed a guest bed?
Concreted a wall?
Insulated your sub-basement against winter pipe freezing?
Had a railing put in to satisfy an insurance company?
Backed-up your computer files?
Had your car hit parked somewhere & not been able to afford fixing it?
Put together packages to mail to friends?
Written book reviews?
Edited movies?
Composed (M)Usic?
Made a meal for yourself?
Taken the trash out?
Taken the recycling out?
Played an instrument?
Suffered through automated phone systems & company employees?
Gone through the nightmare of Obamacare?
Repaired your clothes?
Watched a deer?
Laid a new sidewalk?
THEN you've Taken care of Business! which is what this movie's about. SO, come & share tENT's exhaustion, exasperation, & perseverance edited into a nifty EDD (Experimental Diary Documentary) shot from May 30, 2014, to June 4, 2015. BYOC: Bring Your Own Chair. Refreshments will be provided, BYOB & pot-luck is always welcome, & donations aren't mandatory but won't be turned away.
EXPECT TO BE INTERVIEWED. I'll be making a short movie of the premier to screen at the Three Rivers Film Festival a few months later.
[I did, indeed, premier the movie of the premier as part of a microcinema sidebar at the next 3RFF. That premier is part of "Monty Cantsin Rides Again" available on the Internet Archive here:https://archive.org/details/MontyCantsinRidesAgain ]
I WILL REMIND YOU.
The Movie of the Premier:
"BYOC PREMIER": I try to keep where I live a lively place of intellectual stimulation. I call my house "Who Unit?". Not only is it an archive & a rehearsal space, it's also a site for social gatherings of various sorts. In 2011 I started having mms (m((usic)ian's)m(eetings)) there, in 2012 PHEW!s, in 2015 BYOC. BYOC, Back Yard Outdoor Cinema &/or Bring Your Own Chair, etc, is my opportunity to screen my own work or work by friends or others in a casual microcinema environment without the bother of soliciting the use of venues under the control of other people. The premier of it, on August 1, 2015, consisted of the premier (& only screening so far) of my feature entitled "Taking Care Of Business" (2014-2015). This movie was largely shot in the very backyard where it was then screened - thusly reinforcing the site specificity of the content. TCOB is about me dealing with all the things that I don't particularly want to deal with - practical matters that take up entirely too much time but (more or less) 'must' be done. I call it an 'adult movie' because it's all about boring chores that adults get stuck with. This is most definitely NOT a Hollywood movie selling you your dreams, dreams of that big heist, of life in outer space, of drama full of death, of superhuman powers. Instead, it's a dose of the 'reality' that very few people take the time to take a detached look at. Making a movie of the premier of TCOB adds yet-another layer of mindfullness. Simple practical things like setting up the screen & the sound system & cooking food for the guests ARE important. It's all about making things happen at a human scale, you don't have to have hundreds of millions of dollars & hundreds of employees to do this, you can be like me & do most of the work yourself, invite some friends & neighbors over, & make somewhat ordinary life EXTRAordinary. - December 20, 2015 [onesownthoughts YouTube channel] notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
Further credit is due to Ryan Broughman in Richmond, VA, for using a Facetime feed to create a screen capture movie from which resulted footage that was used in the above "B.Y.O.C. PREMIER" movie & which also produced some of the stills below.
