1998. Poesia Totale
I love being published & while I have a substantial amount that is published there's also a substantial amount that isn't. One of the best things about being published is getting the printed work (or, these days, at least seeing it online). One of the worst things is not getting the work & that's what happened with this.
I was invited to be a part of an exhibit that was probably called "Poesia Totale" by Monty Cantsin (Istvan Kantor). I submitted 3 things. One was a statement to this effect:
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NEOIST POETRY.
That statement, or something similar, made it into the 2 volume thick catalog that came with the show. The 2nd piece that made it into the catalog was an approximately 3 foot by 4 foot Spiral Tim(oo) Cal(oo)ndar. This extremely detailed piece was reproduced in such a way that the text was rendered illegible. That more or less ruined it. Nonetheless, the catalog was several hundred pages & was probably the most lavish book I've ever had work in.
Unfortunately, I've never gotten a copy of it. It was claimed that it was sent to me. I didn't get it. I informed the publisher. It was claimed that a 2nd copy was sent to me. I didn't get that either. I, at least, got to see it because "Blaster" Al Ackerman got his copy & showed it to me. It was amazing. I offered to buy Blaster's copy but he didn't want to sell it. Later, he told me his was stolen.
Anyway, what follows are some scans of a mailing I got regarding the exhibit + a large scan of the Spiral Tim(oo) Cal(oo)ndar + a smaller photo of it. The cobbled-together scan was very labor intensive & only partially successful but at least you'll be able to read most of it if you try.
You can see that I'm listed above as "Tolson". That was annoying but what's new?
