2025.07 BONNIE BONNELL
I haven't written a review of this bk yet & may never. By "this bk" I mean this particular edition, an early rejected draft of it that Paula Gillen, the person who put the bk together & who was the main photographer for it, was kind & generous enuf to send me a copy of b/c it has one photo in it that includes me. That one photo, of 4 shown below, was mistakenly included in the bk b/c it was thought that the photo is of an "Easter Parade" that Bonnie Bonnel participated in. It's not, it's of a TNT (The New Theater) Parade that Bonnie wasn't part of. Hence, the photos have been removed from the final product.

I'm the guy standing in the lower left picture. The white on my pants is some sort of correuption in the scan, it's not in the origiinal photo or in the bk. The parading guerrilla group was called B.O.M.B. (Baltimore Oblivion Marching Band). I was a member, Bonnie participated in one B.O.M.B. action on Easter, 1979.
This bk was asseembled by Paula as a loving tribute to Bonnie who, as far as I know, is still alive, living in Florida. In the 1970s, Bonnie was living in Baltimore, as were Paula & myself. She was a M.I.C.A. (Maryland Institute College of Art) student & then a practicing artist who made some money as a muralist but probably had to support herself thru non-art jobs otherwise.
The bk covers Bonnie's yrs in Baltimore, then in Brooklyn, NYC, then back in Baltimore. The later yrs of her life are unrepresented. Bonnie was an exceptionally vivacious person, know widely as such to our hard-partying comunity. She was also a highly skilled figurative painter. I'm fortunate enuf to have a portrait of myself that she painted in 1977.
Alas, I won't be in the finished bk, there probably aren't any photos of the 2 of us together - even though we knew each other well. This makes me feel somewhat sad & uncomfortable b/c the bk includes people who weren't part of our 'scene' at all while I was very much a central participant. So be it.
