Top 100 Composers: Mario Davidovsky
When I think of music for pre-recorded electronic parts coupled with a solo live instrument I think of Mario Davidovsky before anyone else because of his series of "Synchronisms". However, as was the case with Alice Shields, I didn't really know his music because I only listened to it a few pieces at a time every rare once in a while & never got a feel for the entirety of his oeuvre. SO, I put together the 2 volume tape chronological retrospective listed below in order to more fully appreciate his work. One pleasant surprise was to find that his "Synchronisms No. 8" is for woodwind quintet & tape instead of for a single instrument & tape. All in all, I like his work - but he wouldn't be listed here if the electronics weren't so prominent. - tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE; December 19, 2017E.V.
