Top 100 Composers: Charles-Valentin Morhange Alkan

As seems to be the case with many people, judging by accounts I've read online, I 1st learned of Alkan through his being championed by pianist Raymond Lewenthal - specifically from his "Funeral March for a Papagallo" record. It was love at 1st hearing! Since then, I've listened to everything I've been able to find (using my preferred method of used recording browsing & looking at the library). I've even picked up some scores - knowing that probably even the simplest one will be too difficult for me.

If I weren't stunned enough by the phenomenal virtuosity of "Grande Sonate pour Piano - Les Quatres Ages de la Vie", the "Three Grande Studies for the hands separately and reunited" would be enough to push me over the edge permananely. To think that there're pianists capable of playing the left-hand part alone (THANK YOU Ronald Smith!) is mind-boggling.

When multiple times are given separated by semi-colons (";") it's because I have multiple recordings & I'm giving the times of each. - November 9, 2017 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
