21. "Antiphysis" - Hugues Dufourt - 1978 - 20:00? - Ensemble Intercontemporain

The above quote from Boulez appears on the back of both of the IRCAM records I have. Using Google translate I interpret that as: "To listen, to listen to the work again - what the disc facilitates to the extreme - it is not exactly "getting used to it", to the point of indifference, satiety or allergy. It is rather to know it, to recognize it, to identify it, to identify it; to go beyond the strangeness, the obscurity of the first approach, to be won over by a mystery that's both obvious and unexplained."

Volume 6 of 7

Side 1 of a 90 minute tape:

22. "Modulations" - Gérard Grisey - 1978 - 18:45 - Ensemble Intercontemporain

25. "The Perfect Stranger" - Frank Zappa - 1983? - 12:42 - Ensemble Intercontemporain

26. "Naval Aviation in Art?" - Frank Zappa - 1983? - 2:28 - Ensemble Intercontemporain

Note that it's only on the record label that the person looking at the package discovers that Pierre Boulez & the Ensemble Intercontemporaine only perform 2 of the 3 pieces on side 1 & only perform 1 of the pieces on side 2. The rest are performed by the "Barking Pumpkin Digital Gratification Consort" which, as far as I can tell, is a synclavier that I assume Zappa was assisted in the use of.

On the back cover, Zappa thanks Boulez for commissioning "The Perfect Stranger". Furthermore, it's on the Angel label, a classical label. This release will be discussed in my review of Born's book on IRCAM.
