Top 100 Composers: Darius Milhaud

I debated with myself about whether to even consider including Milhaud but the more I remembered how much I loved "La creation de la monde" (1923) & "Le boeuf sur le toit" (1919) the more I thought I should give his music a chance. Then I listened to "L'homme et son désir" (1921) & that clinched it for me. All his more 'light' music couldn't detract from 3 such great compositions. The list below is of every recording of his music that I have in my own collection that I could put my hands on without searching through thousands of such recordings one-by-one. I don't think I've ever heard anything of his in concert so I can't add anything like that.

"Le boeuf sur le toit" is said to be partially based on a pop song that Milhaud heard in Brazil while secretary to Paul Claudel, the French ambassador there during the latter part of WWI. I suppose it's a little ironic that I love it more than any of the South American music that I know of that's in a similar vein that followed it.
