tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE Movies Never Screened

I, tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE, am a prolific moviemaker. I've averaged about 10 movies a year in the last 39 years, 7 shorts + 3 features a year. My work is not very popular. I manage to screen it fairly often anyway but not nearly enough to enable me to screen everything. As such, over the decades, I've accumulated a big backlog of work NEVER SCREENED. Much of that work was only intended as documents, anyway, & is more targetted at very hypothetical researchers who may very well never exist or who may only express interest in the work long after the medium it's preserved in has rotted. Some of the work has been put online but never screened in a theater. Such work occupies a gray zone since, despite how many hits it receives, I don't know whether anyone's actually ever witnessed more than a few seconds of it. As such, it stays on this list until screened theatrically. Even those that screen in theaters rarely show more than once - usually to small groups. In some cases, the short versions have screened while the sometimes better long versions haven't. If I feel like whatever version has screened is adequately representative then I remove the whole listing. If just one version's been screened among many versions I may just remove that particular version & leave the rest listed. In short, this list is far from definitive. There may've been times when a particular movie was shown to a few friends at someone's home. That still stays on the list here. There are many grey areas. Some things listed here as Never Screened have probably been screened - many of the P.U.M.M.s, eg.

HiTEC documents:

- HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative) was originally proposed as "Sonic Aughts Union" by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE after a May '08 gig in a library by t,ac; Margaret Cox; Rick Gribenas; & Steve Boyle. When "Sonic Aughts Union" failed to materialize as cONVENIENCE originally imagined, it transformed into HiTEC & into more orchestral dimensions. Its 1st rehearsal was on July 14, 2008. In an attempt to document every rehearsal, mini-dv has been shot, sometimes w/ 2 cameras, sometimes w/ the camera(s) only on (a) tripod(s), sometimes w/ camera operators - & explanatory titles have been added. The numbers in the title represent the number of the rehearsal & the letters represent the sub-group of HiTEC that was rehearsing. 'Full' groups are designated as such. The order they're presented in here is an approximate recreation of the order in wch they were made.

- All were shot on mini-dv & edited & titled on computer by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE & outputted to DVD-R & mini-dv unless otherwise noted

270. "Subtitles (closure version)"

- tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE

- Organized from left-to-right, top-to-bottom, oldest-to-newest (almost) this presents a 3X3 grid of the 9 main versions of Subtitles that've been made in the last 28 yrs: (regular-8mm) [1981-82 - 019], (super-8mm) [1980-82 - 010], (16mm) [1980-82 - 025], (16mm analyzed) [1980-82/1984 - 037], (rough draft for 3/4") [1980-82/1984/1986 - 041], (overkill) [1980-82/1984/1986/1990 - 137], (June/July '92) [1980-82/1984/1986/1990/1992 - 148], ('final') [1980-82/1984/1986/1990/1992/2002 - 226], & "What happens in the brain while witnessing "Subtitles (16mm version)" - as explained by a brain researcher who's screened the movie for 2 volunteers while their brains were fMRI-scanned" [2005/08 - 267]. All of these have been edited so that they have changes corresponding to those of (16mm) - following the edits made for the (8 simultaneous versions version) [1980-82/1984/1986/1990/1992/2002 - 227]. ADDITIONALLY, this brings some footage to the forefront - both visuals & sound - to make some elements more comprehensible. The ('16mm <- brains') is sometimes added as an overlay, etc.. This "(closure version)" may very well be the last. It's certainly the most complicated to date! It's also a pinnacle of a certain type of formalism in my work that I'm a bit sick of by now - hence "closure" - time to move on.

- regular-8mm, super-8mm, 16mm, VHS, image data files & mini-dv -> computer -> DVD & mini-DV

261. a. "Discontinuous Universe" (tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE version w/ intertitles)

- made as a collaborative project by approximately the same group of people as 233. "Dead & Breakfast"

- this project began when Kelly Stiles & April Gilmore dumpstered some costumes in Chicago & decided to try to base a movie around them. they thought of a rough outline for a plot wch tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE (& probably others in the cast) then fleshed out. tENT then proposed that multiple edits be made of the material by people in the group. as such, there will hopefully exist at least one more version edited by Kelly Stiles.

- as w/ "Dead & Breakfast", the cast performed multiple roles:

Kelly Stiles: initial inspiration, Alcoholic Unicorn, Jill, camera, etc..

April Gilmore: initial inspiration, Immacular Degeneration the Seahorse, Henchpin, etc..

tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE: additional inspiration, H.A.M., camera, editing, etc..
