tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE (M)Usic Movies

(from late 1975e.v. to july, 2017e.v.)

(in order of most recent to oldest - with the exception of the HiTEC documents - which are organized together regardless of how they fit the overall chronology)

{tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE can be contacted @ <idioideo at verizon dot net>}

In 2011, I was trying to find a venue in St Paul/Minneapolis to screen my documentary about composer/pianist Franz Kamin. I wanted to premier it there b/c that's where Franz had lived for the last 24 yrs of his life.

Somewhere around this time I found a group on the internet that specialized in screenings related to music so I contacted them & made the bold claim that I've made more (M)Usic movies than anyone else that I know of. There was the possibility that this might actually interest them, eh? I got no reply. My speculation regarding this includes the distinct possibility that their response went along these lines: Never heard of this guy, claims he's made more music movies than anyone else, since I've never heard of him & since music movies are my speciality he must be full of shit. Of course, from my perspective, a more reasonable response wd be: Never heard of this guy, claims he's made more music movies than anyone else, I shd find out more about him, he might be an undiscovered person of substantial importance to my interests. (Then again, they might not exist anymore or whatever)

Fortunately, The Film Society of Minneapolis/St. Paul did reply & did have an open mind (BLESS 'EM!) & "DEPOT (wherein resides the UNDEAD of Franz Kamin)" premiered at the St Anthony Main Cinemas on June 13, 2011.

The list below is of every (M)Usic-related movie I've ever made. Most of the (M)Usic is my own - hence my allusion to my preferred term for my own sound production: Usic rather than the more conventional Music. Given that I'm even less accepted as a d composer & a Low Classical Usician than I am as a film & video maker the very fact that the (M)Usic is mostly original is enuf to disqualify these movies as deserving of any attn from a society that prefers imitativeness & unoriginality. As usual, the main criteria most people seem to judge anything by is: How much money is behind it? The answer in my case is: next to none.

One might think that my "PUBLISHED AUDIO (& VAUDIO) RECORDINGS" would interest someone.

There are 209 of these (M)Usic Movies out of my current 474. Is my "bold claim that I've made more (M)Usic movies than anyone else" [that I know of] born out? Will anyone ever bother to research them to even venture an opinion about their degree of originality? Their low-budget technical virtuosity? I'm 58 as I write this (63 as I update it) - will anyone give me credit before I die?

"Rasps" is an uneasy fit here b/c it's meant to be rear-screen projected as a part of a live performance in wch frog rasps are played & used as shadow puppets that interupt the projection. Other live sound elements are also involved. Therefore, it's mainly (M)Usic-related when properly presented in performance rather than as a separate movie.

"I Plagiarized This Title From Outer Space Junk Mail" is also an uneasy fit because it's an overall document that covers many subjects - most of which are covered better in its companion movie "Homeless Movies" - BUT in "I Plagiarized This Title From Outer Space Junk Mail" I include ALL of the booed usic sections, regardless of how lo-fi the image is, while "Homeless Movies" makes editing selections based more on image quality.

HiTEC documents:

- HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative) was originally proposed as "Sonic Aughts Union" by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE after a May '08 gig in a library by t,ac; Margaret Cox; Rick Gribenas; & Steve Boyle. When "Sonic Aughts Union" failed to materialize as cONVENIENCE originally imagined, it transformed into HiTEC & into more orchestral dimensions. Its 1st rehearsal was on July 14, 2008. In an attempt to document every rehearsal, mini-dv has been shot, sometimes w/ 2 cameras, sometimes w/ the camera(s) only on (a) tripod(s), sometimes w/ camera operators - & explanatory titles have been added. The numbers in the title represent the number of the rehearsal & the letters represent the sub-group of HiTEC that was rehearsing. 'Full' groups are designated as such. The order they're presented in here is an approximate recreation of the order in wch they were made.

- All were shot on mini-dv & edited & titled on computer by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE & outputted to DVD-R & mini-dv unless otherwise noted
